Three Twins was born in San Rafael, California in 2005 when Founding Twin Neal Gottlieb set out to craft delicious, affordable and accessible ice cream exclusively using incredible organic ingredients. Before writing the business plan for Three Twins Ice Cream, Founding Twin Neal Gottlieb was sharing an apartment with his twin brother, Carl, and Carl`s wife, Liz, who is also a twin. The trio dubbed their apartment “Three Twins” and when it came time to start the company, Neal knew just what to call it. Though it`s been a pretty great ride for more than a decade, that doesn`t mean there haven`t been some bumps along the way: landlords too nervous to take a chance on an ice cream entrepreneur with little money and limited experience, 90-hour weeks making and selling scoops and trying to keep a business afloat, cold, rainy winters (remember those?) with dismal sales.
At the heart of Welch`s are 1,000 family farmers who make everything possible. Each and every farmer is a grape growing expert, who takes great pride in the vineyards they`ve cultivated for generations. It`s our farmer`s dedication to growing the best Concord and Niagara grapes that`s allowed us to provide families with the delicious juices, jams and jellies they`ve loved for years. Our story began over 140 years ago, when Thomas Bramwell Welch decided to serve grape juice instead of wine at his church. Welch was the first to pasteurize bottled fruit juice using Concord grapes, paving the way for a future industry. After its debut at the Chicago World`s Fair in 1893, Welch`s Grape Juice went on to become the national family favorite it is today. A single glass of Welch`s can stir up memories from the past or help create new ones. In 1921, 320 dairy farmers met in St. Paul, Minnesota, to form the Minnesota Cooperative Creameries Association. Their idea was simple—join together to effectively market and distribute members dairy production across the country. From there, we quickly set our sights on growth. Just eight years after establishing our butter marketing organization, we expanded into the ag services and feed businesses.
