West Liberty University is a forward-looking, four-year public university steeped in a rich heritage as West Virginias oldest institution of higher education. Established as West Liberty Academy in 1837 (26 years before the state was admitted to the Union), it was created to respond to the need for higher educational opportunities west of the Appalachian ridge. The institution is named for the town in which it is located. West Liberty was so named in the late 18th Century as the westernmost point of the new liberty provided through the Declaration of Independence.

The Boston campus of the University of Massachusetts brings the resources of a major university to people from all walks of life, offering undergraduate and graduate programs in approximately 90 fields of study, as well as advanced certificate programs through the College of Advancing and Professional Studies. In 1982 Boston State College joined UMass Boston to create an even better institution, and its alumni and former staff are considered part of the UMass Boston family. UMass Boston has enrollment of approximately 13,300 students and boasts an internationally distinguished faculty of 818 members including Lloyd Schwartz who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Criticism in 1994, Monet expert Paul Tucker, and esteemed professor of management, Pacey Foster.
The University System of New Hampshire is the largest provider of post secondary education in the Granite State. With more than 31,000 enrolled students and 81,000 alumni living in state, the sister institutions of the University System - the University of New Hampshire, Plymouth State University, Keene State College, and Granite State College - have a direct impact on hundreds of thousands of New Hampshire citizens every year.
