In 2014, Paterson`s state-appointed superintendent Donnie Evans promoted McKoy to the Cabinet-level human resources position. During her brief time in Paterson, the district had sent McKoy for training to the Center for Education Policy Research in Harvard. McKoy had been principal of the Community Charter School of Paterson from 2009 to 2013. McKoy is not related to City Councilman William McKoy. Her husband, Vaughn McKoy, is the former director of the criminal justice division in the state Attorney General`s Office.
