Founded in 1954 by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, Holy Family University is a comprehensive four-year university based in Philadelphia. About half of the University`s 3,500 students are enrolled on a full- or part-time basis in the traditional undergraduate program. The remaining students are adults enrolled in graduate programs or accelerated degree programs designed for working adults. More than 45 degree programs are available from four schools: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education, and Nursing & Allied Health Professions. Continuing education and accelerated degree programs are offered by the Division of Extended Learning. The University is based at the Northeast Philadelphia Campus, which serves as home of the traditional undergraduate program and offers courses in the graduate program. The Northeast Philadelphia Campus also offers student housing for full-time undergraduates. Holy Family — Newtown is located in Newtown Township, Bucks County, and offers an undergraduate program in education, graduate programs, and select courses in the accelerated programs. Specially designed for adult students, Holy Family — Woodhaven in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, serves as home to the Division of Extended Learning and its continuing education and accelerated degree programs. The University`s accelerated MBA also is available in South Philadelphia at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes`) Church, located at Columbus Avenue and Christian Street.
Columbia first established an in-house legal department in 1974. Before 1974, an outside law firm acted as counsel to the University. During this period any member of the University Community seeking legal services called directly on outside counsel. Starting in the late 1960`s, the cost of this uncontrolled use of outside lawyers became very high. To control these costs, the inside legal department (now the Office of the General Counsel) has since coordinated all outside legal services. As part of this control, outside law firms can be retained only by the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) and bills for outside legal services will be paid only if the work was initiated or approved by OGC. To assure the integrity and independence of these decisions and of the legal services rendered to the University, the General Counsel reports directly to the President and the Trustees. OGC represents the legal interests of the entire University, including such geographically separate entities as the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Rockland County, Nevis Laboratories in Westchester County, Reid Hall in Paris, and the entire Columbia Medical Center (formerly Health Sciences campus) in Washington Heights. At present the office consists of the General Counsel, the Deputy General Counsel, 19 Associate General Counsels, an Assistant General Counsel, 3 paralegals, a Director of Budget & Human Resources, business manager, file manager, secretarial and clerical support staff and student help. The entire office resides in Low Library. The ongoing legal business of the University involves a broad array of services in connection with financings, contracts, trusts and estates, real estate and tax matters, labor and employment issues, commercial litigation, clinical trials, and science and technology agreements and licensing. All OGC attorneys are experienced in handling contract and general business legal matters, and all have a broad capability to handle the great variety of legal problems which arise in the context of a large university with substantial financial interests and real property ownership, in addition to the human problems which arise in the context of a large and diverse community.
The Board of Regents The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia was created in 1931 as a part of a reorganization of Georgia`s state government. With this act, public higher education in Georgia was unified for the first time under a single governing and management authority. The governor appoints members of the Board to a seven year term and regents may be reappointed to subsequent terms by a sitting governor. Today the Board of Regents is composed of 19 members, five of whom are appointed from the state-at-large, and one from each of the state`s 14 congressional districts. The Board elects a chancellor who serves as its chief executive officer and the chief administrative officer of the University System. The University System The University System of Georgia (USG), a part of the community in each of Georgia`s 159 counties, provides services across the state. The USG is composed of 26 higher education institutions including four research universities, four comprehensive universities, nine state universities and nine state colleges. The Georgia Public Library System, encompassing approximately 389 facilities in 61 library systems throughout Georgia, is also part of the USG. Additionally, the USG includes the Georgia Archives which identifies, collects, manages, preserves, publicizes, and provides access to records and information of Georgia and its people.
The Ventura County Community College District is a public community college district serving residents in Ventura County. The District`s three colleges-Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura-offer programs for transfer to four-year colleges and universities, occupational and vocational training, basic skills instruction, as well as economic development and continuing education for cultural growth, life enrichment, and skills improvement. Each of the colleges provides a wide range of general programs and services to students, as well as focusing on its own unique and specialty areas. As of Fall 2013, VCCCD served 31,995 students.
