Veronica Zaman is currently Corporate Vice President, Human Resources and Learning for Scripps Health in San Diego, California. In her role she holds responsibility for the strategic direction of workforce planning, education, development and recruitment of staff for the Scripps system wide organization. She is responsible for the financial and developmental decisions for the overall planning and placement of people throughout the system, development of recruitment and retention initiatives, and education and staff development. Mrs. Zaman also works in collaboration with Marketing and communications to establish Scripps Health branding and marketing strategies. Mrs. Zaman's career in health care and business has been extensive and varied. It has included experiences in clinical care delivery, hospital management, administration, and operations in the for-profit and not-for-profile sectors and private business sector. She has held staff and leadership positions providing strategic oversight for the development of programs such as: clinical initiatives in patient care delivery; service/product lines; restructuring of organizational and hospital design; information systems development and implementation; acuity and staffing; nurse recruitment and retention; professional and shared governance practice models; physician and nursing educational certification; oncology and perinatology; children's developmental clinics; and Women's Services. She has also served as the European representative for consulting and marketing services for high end specialty retailing establishments in England and Europe. Prior to joining the Scripps Health System, she served as Senior Vice President, Hospitals and Clinics for Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, a three hospital system in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The system has ranked in the top 100 hospitals for the past ten years and received national recognition as "most wired" healthcare system and continues to be a leader in medical informatics. Mrs. Zaman also served as a Director, H*Works and Faculty Member of the Leadership Academy, a division of The Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC. The Academy serves leaders in the nursing, healthcare, and business professions in the development of best practices in the delivery of care and business solutions. As a faculty member for the Academy, Mrs. Zaman was responsible for developing curriculum, teaching classes, and conducting workshops at leading hospitals around the country. Prior to joining the Advisory Board, she has held various leadership positions in academic and non-academic facilities ranging in size from 178 beds up to 1100 beds. She has served as a change agent in moving organizations forward in meeting the demands of the dynamic health care environment. Throughout her career Mrs. Zaman has also been actively engaged in community and national initiatives to develop and improve the healthcare delivery systems for women and children. Ms. Zaman is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Society for Human Resources Management.
