Qvella is a molecular diagnostics company with the goal of dramatically reducing time to results in bacteriology. The company has developed a highly differentiated technology for pathogen detection by direct sampling of boldily fluids without the need for culturing or time consuming sample processing.
About the Person
Tino Alavie co-founded Qvella Corporation in 2009. As President and CEO of the Company, he is the driving force behind the innovative research and development being conducted at Qvella. Prior to Qvella, Dr. Alavie founded NOVX Systems Inc. in 2001 and served as its CEO and later as Executive Chairman. NOVX is a medical device company that focuses on physician productivity tools including diagnostic solutions for point of care testing and EMR for patient and office management. Tino Alavie was the co-founder and President of ElectroPhotonics Corporation leading it through two successful rounds of private placement and the final acquisition by E-TEK Dynamics in June 1999. EPC was a pioneer in the development of fiber optic sensors for physical parameter measurements and later for advanced components in optical networks. Dr. Alavie has served as a technical advisor and on the board of directors for a number of high technology companies. He is a Seminar Leader and guest lecturer with the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto. Tino Alavie has over 50 publications in journal and conference papers and was recently awarded Florida Tech`s College of Engineering Outstanding Alumnus Award for 2013. Dr. Alavie earned his Ph.D. at the Florida Institute of Technology and a post-doctorate in Fiber Optics Sensing at the University of Toronto.
