Thomas Charles Mitchell served as Executive Director of Human Resources at Johnston Community School District. Mitchell is no stranger to Iowa schools and the human resources profession. For more than 35 years, Mitchell has worked with Area Education Agencies and public and parochial school districts as a school psychologist and supervisor. Most recently, he spent 11 years with Des Moines Public Schools as their director of human resources. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Graceland and a master`s degree in School Psychology from Western Illinois University. Mitchell also holds certifications and licensures in special education, administration, and evaluator approval. In his role, Mitchell oversaw the recruitment and hiring of all district personnel; serve as the district`s equity coordinator and chair of the multi-cultural non-sexist committee; assume responsibility for certifications, renewals, accreditation, and licensing; administer mentor programs for new hires; and serve as Level 1 investigator for abuse and harassment issues.
