On June 11, 1938, the Atlanta Housing Authority (AHA) was the first-ever public housing authority established in the U.S. when the City of Atlanta passed a resolution declaring the need for safe, affordable housing for families facing financial difficulty. Under Georgia law, we are commissioned to develop, acquire, lease and operate affordable housing for low-income people and families. We are a leader in transforming public housing and providing affordable communities for families, seniors and the disabled. In 1996, AHA spearheaded the model for mixed-income, mixed-use communities where residents can thrive in quality, healthy living environments and advance to self-sufficiency. AHA is the largest housing agency in Georgia and one of the largest in the nation. We are a real estate development company that serves nearly 50,000 people, including families in 16 mixed-income communities, 13 residential properties (11 senior high-rise buildings and two family communities) and AHA`s Housing Choice Voucher Program participants. Our mission is to provide quality affordable housing in amenity-rich, mixed-income communities for the betterment of the community.
Gaithersburg began as a small settlement at the juncture between two trails, now Frederick Avenue and Diamond Avenue. The arrival of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1873 sparked a business and agricultural expansion that made the Gaither settlement the commercial center for upper Montgomery County, and it was incorporated as the town of Gaithersburg in 1878. A second major expansion occurred in the 1960`s, when the Atomic Energy Commission headquarters (now the Department of Energy) and the National Institute for Standards and Technology relocated to the vicinity, spurring residential and commercial growth that continues to this day. With a population of nearly 70,000, Gaithersburg is now one of the largest cities in Maryland. It is a major international location for high technology companies, and boasts award-winning schools, neighborhoods and commercial developments. Its respect for its heritage, demonstrated by the revitalization efforts in the Olde Towne residential and commercial district, coupled with thoughtful planning for new communities and a commitment to cultural and recreational activities, has earned the City national acclaim.
The Indiana Department of Revenue was created by an Act of the Indiana General Assembly on Feb. 18, 1947. The Department is headed by Commissioner Mike Alley. The Department of Revenue is responsible for providing service to Indiana citizens regarding state tax matters. Additionally, the Department administers state tax laws, develops regulations and makes decisions about tax policy.
