Las Cruces Public Schools is the second largest school district in New Mexico. Located 45 miles north of the US-Mexico border, it encompasses the City of Las Cruces, the Town of Mesilla, the Village of Doña Ana, and White Sands Missile Range, and covers the middle third of Doña Ana County. The district has 41 schools: 25 elementary schools (kindergarten-5); one combined elementary and middle school (K-8); eight middle schools (6-8); and seven high schools (9-12). Two of the seven high schools are early college high schools and are located on the campus of New Mexico State University. LCPS also has a virtual learning academy, serving elementary through high school students. Student enrollment is approximately 24,600 students. Las Cruces Public Schools is the third largest employer in Doña Ana County with more than 3,600 employees, which includes about 2,300 classroom teachers and educational assistants.
The Lynchburg City School Division began operation on April 5, 1871 and continues to be recognized as a leader of education in Virginia. From the beginning, students have entered our schools with anticipation, enthusiasm, and hope. They anticipate challenging academic experiences, seek personal enrichment, and hope that their individual efforts cause them to be more successful. Lynchburg City Schools offer educational services to more than 8,000 students enrolled in preschool through adult classes in two high schools, three middle schools, and eleven elementary schools. Alternative elementary, middle and high school programs, gifted programs, and programs for the disabled are also available. Our elementary schools provide an optimal academic environment and accelerated learning opportunities. Along with basic learning skills, students are taught basic concepts of character development and citizenship. In bridging the gap between elementary school and high school, our middle schools provide the vehicle through which students move from the child-centered, team-teaching, and unit approach of the elementary school to the departmentalized and comprehensive instructional program available in high school. On the high school level, courses within the instructional program range in level of difficulty to meet the students` needs, interests, and academic abilities. Advanced classes, including advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses for college credit, are offered in all academic areas. Co-curricular programs include eleven boys` interscholastic varsity sports, nine girls` interscholastic varsity sports, and cultural arts programs including arts, drama, band, orchestra, and vocal ensembles. In partnership with parents and community, the faculty and staff of Lynchburg City Schools are committed to the mission of helping children develop their full potential by providing learning opportunities which recognize individual needs.
