About the Person

Shani Penn is the Chief of Staff and Chief Talent Officer at Education Achievement Authority.   Shani Penn had served as chief of staff to former Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr from April to November 2013.   Penn, 38, was also chief of staff to Detroit City Council member James Tate from January 2010 to April 2013 prior to accepting the job with Orr.   Most recently, from November 2013 to October 2014 she was an adviser to Gov. Rick Snyder, focusing on Belle Isle and the redevelopment of the historic Fort Wayne in Detroit.   The Western Michigan University and Central Michigan University graduate has also held the roles of dealer relations manager, retail risk specialist and audit supervisor for Chrysler Financial.   Penn, a Crain`s 40 Under 40 honoree last year, is pursuing an MBA at the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business.
