About the Person

Sandra P. Kapell is Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Administration for Cablevision Systems Corporation. Ms. Kapell is responsible for the development and execution of enterprise-wide human resources and administrative programs that foster a skilled, high-performing workforce.   Previously, Ms. Kapell served as senior vice president and chief human resources officer of Chartis, an AIG company and the world's largest property and casualty insurer. Arriving early in the Company's transformation, Ms. Kapell was a key leader in developing and implementing performance management and talent management practices that led to the successful recovery of AIG.   She also worked on a number of initiatives for the firm, including the recruitment of several key executives, the implementation of the company's first-ever succession planning process for the board of directors, and the launch of the company's performance management program and management development curriculum.   Prior to joining Chartis, Ms. Kapell was senior vice president of MetLife for five years, where she oversaw all aspects of leadership development, sales training, financial planning, special needs planning and the advanced markets legal group.   Before this, she served in numerous senior human resources and operations roles, including chief operating officer/director of human resources of Westport Resources Investment Services and global head of administration and strategy of Futures International.   In 2011, Ms. Kapell was recognized as part of the MetLife team that received a 2011 Learning Leaders award, which highlighted organizations that drove significant business improvement with innovative and effective approaches to employee learning and talent management. MetLife was the only financial services company to receive an award in the category.   Throughout her career, Ms. Kapell has been a strong advocate for the advancement and professional development of women in the workplace. While at AIG, she was a key organizer of AIG's Global Women's Forum, a first of its kind mentoring program whose model has since been adopted by a number of companies in the U.S.   At MetLife, Ms. Kapell led the creation of the Women Sales Forum, which sponsors speed networking activities and hosts workshops on topics such as mastering leadership skills and understanding different communication styles. In 2011, Ms. Kapell was recognized with a Top 10 Women in Business award by PINK, a leading digital platform for career women.   Ms. Kapell received her master's in education from Columbia University and her bachelor's in English from the University of Washington.
