Georgia Regents University, home of the Medical College of Georgia, is one of only four public comprehensive research institutions in the state of Georgia. Founded in 1828, the university includes nine colleges and schools with nearly 9,000 students, over 1,000 full-time faculty and nearly 7,000 staff. It houses the nation`s ninth-largest and 13th-oldest medical school, the state`s sole dental college, an aligned and integrated health system, a growing intercollegiate athletics program, the highly respected Hull College of Business, the diverse Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, among other units. With a campus of approximately 150 buildings, the university is a $1 billion-plus enterprise with statewide and national reach. The Medical College of Georgia includes a partnership campus in Athens, Ga., and satellite campuses in the Georgia cities of Albany, Rome and Savannah. A degree from GRU, an institution whose research, patient care and instruction have contributed immeasurably to advances in the state, nation and world, is greatly respected. Williams Baptist College is a four-year, Christian, liberal arts college. Williams is known for its academic excellence and personal attention, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 13-to-1, as well as its warm, Christ-centered environment. There are over 500 students on WBC`s main campus at Walnut Ridge, Ark., and a total enrollment of about 600. Most students live in on-campus residence halls and apartments. Founded in 1881, South Dakota State University is the state`s Morrill Act land-grant institution as well as its largest, most comprehensive school of higher education. SDSU confers degrees from eight different colleges representing more than 175 majors, minors and specializations. The institution also offers 29 master`s degree programs, 12 Ph.D. and two professional programs.The work of the university is carried out on a residential campus in Brookings, at sites in Sioux Falls, Pierre and Rapid City, and through Extension offices and Agricultural Experiment Station research sites across the state.
Stony Brook University was established in 1957 as a college for the preparation of secondary school teachers of mathematics and science; our first campus was located at Oyster Bay, Long Island, on the grounds of a former Gold Coast estate. In 1962, a new campus was built in Stony Brook, on land donated by local philanthropist Ward Melville. Part of the State University of New York system, Stony Brook now encompasses 123 buildings on 1,100 acres. In the nearly fifty years since its founding, the University has grown tremendously, and is now recognized as one of the nation`s important centers of learning and scholarship—carrying out the mandate given by the State Board of Regents in 1960 to become a university that would “stand with the finest in the country.”
