About the Person
Russell M. Jackson is Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Safeway. Jackson came to Safeway from PG&E Corporation, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources, overseeing all aspects of employee relations, compensation, benefits, recruiting, leadership development, and labor relations. During his 27-year tenure with PG&E, Jackson has held both line and staff positions in the areas of operations, marketing and general management. In his latest role, he had been in the forefront of transformation efforts to refocus the utility’s strategic vision and improve its operational efficiency. Among numerous achievements, he introduced a leadership academy, workshops and other development programs to support cultural change and enhance executive decision making; implemented a new performance management program and compensation system to better align employee performance with business objectives; and directed a strategic planning effort to realign the human resources function to focus on planning and employee development. Jackson graduated from San Jose State University. He also has an MBA from St. Mary’s College and a master’s degree in Human Resources and Organizational Development from the University of San Francisco, along with a certificate in Human Resources Management from the University of California at Berkeley.
