The Sonoma Valley Unified School District is located in the rich agriculture area of Northern California, 45 miles northeast of San Francisco. The District`s population of close to 4,500 students is served by the following schools: Five K-5 elementary, two 6-8 middle, two K-8 charter schools, one comprehensive, and one alternative high school. The geographic boundaries of the District (approximately 160 square miles) start in Glen Ellen at the north end of Sonoma Valley and run south through communities of Agua Caliente, Fetters Hot Springs, Boyes Hot Springs, Eldridge, Sonoma, Schellville, and Vineberg, with Hwy. 12 bisecting the Sonoma Valley from Glen Ellen to Schellville. The southern boundaries are the Napa/ Sonoma County line to the east, Hwy.37/ Hwy. 121 to the southwest and Hwy. 116 at Stage Gulch Rd. to the west. The Board of Trustees in committed to educational excellence. Staff, parents, and community members have been involved in the identification of academic standards in the areas of math, language arts, spelling, history, and science. Pioneer Valley Regional School District is a four town regional school district in eastern and central Franklin County, Massachusetts. The Los Banos Unified School District is composed of approximately 9,000 students, K-12. From 2000-0008, our enrollment growth has averaged 3.89% per year. Students are housed in seven elementary schools, and one junior high school (grades 7-8), one comprehensive high school, one alternative high school and one community day school. The District has an adult education program and also operates the Learning Center, a latchkey child care program and STAR, a before/after school program. Governed by a 7-member Board of Education, the District employs approximately 575 certificated and 425 classified employees and oversees an annual budget in excess of $84,000,000. Changing is the single word that can be used that best describes the Los Banos Unified School District. We are changing to ensure that all students master District curriculum standards. We are upgrading and building new school facilities to house our rapidly increasing enrollment. We are spending more resources training our staff to ensure all children have highly qualified teachers in their classrooms. In the spring of 2001, the District with support from the Board and under the Superintendent`s leadership, established the "Read to Achieve Initiative." This program continues to focus on implementing research proven strategies that directly impact student performance. Teachers and administrators are working collaboratively to find out what we are doing well and identify those areas needing improvement. Other programs include Vocational Education, Technology Education, Gifted and Talented Education, and specialized reading and mathematics programs. Los Banos Unified School District is focused on becoming a destination district, where families choose to locate as a result of the quality instructional programs that are offered.
