About the Person

Dr. Rodney E. Watson has resigned as Chief Human Resources Officer at Houston Independent School District.   Dr. Watson received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and music education in 1996. He earned a master’s degree in counseling and guidance and Special Education (2001) and a Ph.D. in urban leadership and policy studies and curriculum and instruction (2007) at the University of Missouri–Kansas City.   He has served as a college admissions counselor/recruiter (1991–1995); a deputy juvenile officer (1996–1998); the manager of the Volunteers in Probation program (1998–1999); an associate director of college-student support services (1999–2000); an elementary-school transition coordinator, a substance abuse assessment coordinator, and a guidance counselor (2000–2003); and an elementary-school principal (since 2002).   In Missouri, he held Special Education, counseling, K–8 administration, and superintendent certifications. In 2009, he received a certificate from Harvard University’s Principal’s Center.   A former conflict mediator, Dr. Watson has been a senior associate trainer for the Haberman Educational Foundation since 2007 and an adjunct professor in the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Education since 2003.
