Brigham Young University Hawaii is a small, academically challenging university (approximately 2400 students) emphasizing the liberal arts together with professional programs in business, education and computer technologies. The University services an international student body: Approximately 50 percent of the students come from over 70 countries outside the United States, primarily from Asia and the Pacific. BYU-Hawaii is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Established in 1955 as the Church College of Hawaii (CCH), the campus is located in Laie, Hawaii, thirty-five miles from Honolulu. CCH`s name was changed to Brigham Young University Hawaii in 1974, and today is part of the three-campus BYU system that includes BYU in Provo, UT and BYU Idaho in Rexburg, ID. BYU-Hawaii offers a unique environment that helps students enlarge the intellect, build personal character and faith in God, and live harmoniously among those whose cultures are different from their own. This leads students to a lifetime of learning and service in their careers, families, church, community and country. The academic curriculum emphasizes intercultural traditions, with 24 majors in business, technology, education, science, and the arts. TCS Education System (TCS) is a nonprofit system of colleges created to advance student success and community impact. Villanova University was founded in 1842 by the Order of St. Augustine. To this day, Villanova`s Augustinian Catholic tradition is the cornerstone of an academic community where students learn to think critically, act compassionately and succeed while serving others. The Villanova community helps students grow intellectually, professionally and spiritually and challenges them to reach their full potential. More than 10,000 undergraduate, graduate and law students take part in a wide variety of degree and certificate programs throughout the University`s six colleges – the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Villanova School of Business, the College of Engineering, the College of Nursing, the College of Professional Studies and the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. The university system started as the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines in Fairbanks, later renamed the University of Alaska. That first year, the campus was a single two-story frame building and had just six students. The school was renamed the University of Alaska in 1935. In 1954, Anchorage Community College (now known as the University of Alaska Anchorage) was incorporated into the University of Alaska. That next year, Juneau Community College was established and was later named the University of Alaska Southeast. The UA system`s largest hubs (UAA, UAF and UAS) are separately accredited institutions, as is Prince William Sound Community College in Valdez. System-wide, nearly 33,000 full- and part-time students are enrolled, studying among 500 unique degree, certificate or endorsement programs. Study areas include short-course workforce training, associate degrees, bachelor`s and master`s degrees, as well as doctorates. Programs include a wide array of the sciences, engineering, teacher and early childhood education, business, journalism and communications, aviation, health occupations, history, English, the arts and humanities and many others. Per the Alaska Constitution, an 11-member board of regents governs the system. The system president serves as the board`s chief executive officer. Chancellors for each of the hubs—UAA, UAF and UAS--report to the president.
