In 2009, Salem Health became the first hospital in Oregon and one of just 22 hospitals nationwide to become a two-time winner of the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. In May 2011, Salem Hospital became the only Oregon hospital to earn one of the first-ever sustained improvement awards given by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for achievement in eliminating two serious hospital infections.
