Since Highland Park schools were founded in 1914, there has been a consistent effort to build a tradition of excellence in both academic and extracurricular activities. Highland Park High School students consistently score above the national and state average on the ACT and SAT. In 2012, HPHS students scored a composite 26.6 on the ACT, compared to the Texas average of 20.8 and the national average of 21.1. HPHS students recorded a composite score of 1792 on the SAT, higher than the Texas average of 1434 and the national average of 1498.
