Pittsburgh, PA-based U.S. Steel hired Nancy Sykes as VP of HR.

Steel has tubular operations in Bellville, Houston, Hughes Springs, and Lone Star, Texas;  Pine Bluff, Ark.; Fairfield, Ala.; Lorain, Ohio; and McKeesport, Pa. The company also maintains tubular products sales offices in Denver, Co., Dallas and Houston, Texas,  and Calgary, Alberta Canada. U. S. Steel produces coke at Mon Valley Works` Clairton Plant near Pittsburgh as well as at Gary Works, Granite City Works, Lake Erie Works, Hamilton Works and U. S. Steel Košice. The company operates two iron ore mines through its Minnesota Ore Operations on the Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota: one in Mt. Iron (Minntac) and one in Keewatin (Keetac). Both mine an iron-bearing rock called taconite and process it into concentrated iron ore pellets, which are converted to liquid iron in the company`s blast furnaces. U. S. Steel is also involved in railroad and barge transportation services through its Transtar, Inc. subsidiary and real estate operations through its USS Real Estate division. Every day, U. S. About the Person

Nancy Sykes is executive vice president and chief human resources officer of Southern Company Services, providing direction to the overall enterprise of America’s premier energy company. Sykes is responsible for managing the human resources and labor relations function for Southern Company and all of its subsidiaries, which serve 9 million electric and gas utility customers across the country. She also develops and implements human capital strategies to attract, engage and motivate the current workforce and the workforce of the future. She joined Southern Company from U.S. Steel, where she served as vice president and chief human resources officer since 2015. There, she was responsible for all facets of the company’s human resources organization, including employee development, talent management and acquisition, compensation and medical and health services. Sykes joined U.S. Steel after spending more than five years with The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Her last role at Goodyear was vice president for human resources, Asia Pacific, with responsibility of all aspects of human resources for the company’s Asia Pacific strategic business unit across 12 countries. Prior to Goodyear, she worked at General Electric for 20 years in a number of the GE industrial businesses. A native of Binghamton, N.Y., Sykes graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. She is also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt
