Students in all Mingo County schools enjoy a nutritious breakfast and lunch at no cost of their own thanks to the Community Eligibility Option. A grant provides fresh fruits for snacks to most elementary students, with school-made food served at nearly every lunch. Students are encouraged to take charge of their own well-being at an early age, with the Mingo County Diabetes Coalition partnering with schools to promote before or after school walks and 5K runs within the community.
