Discovery Place operates Discovery Place and Charlotte Nature Museum and Discovery Place KIDS. Located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas, Charlotte, N.C., Discovery Place offers a family-friendly experience surrounded by the excitement of a bustling urban community. Visitors also can get close to nature by visiting Charlotte Nature Museum, adjacent to Freedom Park and located in one of the community’s finest residential areas. Charlotte Nature Museum visitors may walk among free-flying butterflies, observe live animals, buzz around with insects or hang out in the natural world. Daily programming including puppet shows and hands-on activities provide the opportunity for structured learning and informal play for the young and old alike. The first Discovery Place KIDS museum opened in Huntersville, N.C., in October 2010 and is the first in a planned network of regional children’s museums. Providing an extraordinary and rich play experience that engages children’s imagination and inspires learning, the Museum is designed to serve children and their parents or caregivers. A second Discovery Place KIDS opened in Rockingham, N.C., in February 2013. Discovery Place also offers off-site educational experiences to community groups and schools throughout N.C. and S.C. through its ScienceReach program.
