About the Company

The Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC) is the premier nonprofit human service organization providing services to the Middle Eastern and mainstream communities in Southeast Michigan. Founded in 1979, the ACC provides counseling, health care, social services, employment training, job placement, translation, interpretation and youth services to more than 70,000 clients in metro Detroit. The ACC operates 40 outreach offices in the tri-county area, staffed with bilingual and trilingual professionals to serve the Arab American and Chaldean American populations and offer assistance to the Middle East refugee population.

 

About the Person

Michael Thomas is the Director of Human Resources at The Arab American and Chaldean Council, a premier nonprofit human service organization serving southeast Michigan.   In this position, his duties will include managing the day-to-day operations of employment issues and staffing, recruiting employees, attending job fairs and related events, advising managers on employment matters, supervising subordinates and reporting to superiors.   Prior to joining the ACC, Thomas was a business consultant, volunteer and caregiver at Thomas Consulting in Dearborn, Mich. There, he provided best business practice options and training for government and nonprofit organizations. He also spent 18 years at the University of Michigan-Dearborn working as the Partners Plus Program Coordinator and, later, its Director, Program Manager and Principal Investigator. He also has served in various positions with colleges and universities throughout the state.   The Detroit resident received his bachelor`s degree, with high honors, in Business Administration and Organizational Management and Leadership from the University of Detroit-Mercy and his MBA in Global Business Management and Finance from Lawrence Technological University.   Professionally, Thomas has participated in numerous workshops and conferences with the U.S. Government and colleges and is involved in a variety of organizations including as Board Vice President of the West Village Academy and president of FBI Detroit Citizen Academy Alumni Association.   In addition to his duties at the ACC, Thomas is a business and economics division adjunct faculty member at Henry Ford Community College and a seminar adjunct faculty member at Oakland Community College.
