About the Person

Michael T. Barriere, also known as Mike, served as Chief Human Resources Officer at Alcoa from May 2012 – June 2014.   Mr. Barriere served as Vice President of Human Resources at Alcoa Inc., from May 1, 2012 to August 2013. He joined Alcoa as Chief Talent Officer in 2011, having oversight for talent development, performance management, leadership training, succession planning and employee engagement.   Prior to Alcoa, he served as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources at New York Life Insurance Co. At New York Life Insurance, he established HR centers of expertise in Talent Management, Recruiting, Diversity and Compensation.   Prior to NY Life, he led a global HR team at Citigroup that included HR business partner, compensation, strategy, talent and leadership development functions for businesses in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the U.S.   Earlier in his career, Mr. Barriere was a system design engineer for Grumman Aerospace Corporation and a research scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory in its Human Factors & Performance Analysis Group.   He has a PhD in industrial psychology from Hofstra University in New York, with a focus on employee engagement and leadership, and an MBA from the Wharton Business School at University of Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor's degree in Engineering Science from Hofstra.
