About the Person
Mr. Michael A. Narachi, also known as Mike, M.S., M.B.A, has been the Chief Executive Officer and President of Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. since March 2009. Mr. Narachi has more than 25 years of biotechnology and pharmaceutical experience in clinical development, commercialization, strategic business development and planning at Orexigen. He served as the Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and President of REN Pharmaceuticals Inc. He served as an Officer and Vice President of Amgen Inc. and also served as its General Manager for Amgen`s Anemia Business from 1999 to 2003. He led Amgen Inc.`s integrated medical, marketing and sales team whose chief aim was to eliminate anemia and its complications. He joined Amgen in July 1984 as a Molecular Biology Research Associate. He held various positions throughout the Amgen including Product Development Team Leader for NEUPOGEN(R), Director of Clinical Operations in Thousand Oaks, CA of Cambridge, UK, Vice President of Development and Representative Director of Amgen Japan, Head of Corporate Strategic Planning, Chief Operations Officer of Amgen Biopharma and Vice President of Licensing and Business Development. He has been the Chairman at Celladon Corporation since October 2013. He has been the Chairman of SinusPharma, Inc. since September 2004. He served as the Chairman of AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from October 2009 to April 16, 2014. He served as an Executive Chairman of Naryx Pharma, Inc. He has been an Independent Director of Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. since February 20, 2015. He has been a Director of Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. since March 2009. He serves as a Non-Employee Director of Celladon Corporation. He serves as a Director of REN Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He served as a Director of AMAG Pharmaceuticals Inc. (formerly, Advanced Magnetics Inc.) since November 8, 2006 until May 22, 2014. He served as a Representative Director of Amgen Japan. Mr. Narachi received a B.S. in Biology and an M.A. in Biology and Genetics from the University of California at Davis. He received an M.B.A. from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at University of California, Los Angeles.
