About the Person

Melinda Schmidt has been named 2012 United Way Volunteer of the Year by United Way of Southwest Minnesota. She has been a member of its board of directors of since July 2006.   Melinda has served in a number of board member roles including serving as 2009-10 president of the board, executive committee, serving on the community investment committee, fund-raising committee, governance committee and personnel/nominating committee and the Success By 6 Initiative steering committee.   Melinda lives in Wood Lake and works at North Star Mutual Insurance Company in Cottonwood. She could probably tell how her employer got her involved with United Way back in the fall of 2003 as one of the team of people responsible for running an employee campaign in their workplace for the first time. Little did she know at that time that she was beginning a journey of engagement and caring with United Way.   Melinda is a concerned and caring individual who doesn`t seek credit for what she does. She has demonstrated what it means to Live United. She participates whole heartedly with its invitation to Give - Advocate - Volunteer.
