About the Person

Leigh A. Roop is an Executive Vice President and the Chief Human Resources Officer for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (Exchange), at the headquarters in Dallas, Texas. She is responsible for leading and implementing Human Resources business initiatives on a global scale. The Exchange is one of the top 50 retail organizations in the U.S. with annual revenue of $8.3B, employing more than 38,000 civilian and military personnel.   Ms. Roop was born in South Korea and grew up in Fayetteville, N.C. She began her Exchange career as a Human Resources assistant in Stuttgart, Germany. Since then Ms. Roop has held a variety of positions, including Human Resources Manager in the Netherlands and Fort Meade, Md., before being reassigned to headquarters in 1996. Here, Ms. Roop served as a Policy Specialist, Recruiter and Career Manager.   In 2000, Ms. Roop relocated to the Pacific as the Human Resources Manager of Yokota Air Base and Camp Zama, Japan, and was reassigned in 2002 to Okinawa, Japan. In 2005, she returned to headquarters as the Chief, Employee Relations and Field Support, responsible for managing Human Resources offices worldwide. Ms. Roop assumed the position of Vice President, Corporate University in 2008, Vice President, Policy in 2009, and Vice President, Operations and Support in 2010.   She assumed the role of Vice President, Human Resources Directorate in 2011 through 2013. She was named Chief Human Resources Officer in January 2014 and assumed the role of Executive Vice President in July 2014.   Ms. Roop has a Master of Science in Human Resources Training from Amberton University in Garland, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md. Ms. Roop holds a senior professional in human resources (SPHR) certification and is a certified compensation professional (CCP).
