About the Person

Larry E. Steward is Senior Vice President of Human Resources for DTE Energy (NYSE:DTE), a Detroit-based diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services nationwide. Its operating units include an electric utility serving 2.1 million customers in Southeastern Michigan and a natural gas utility serving 1.2 million customers in Michigan. The DTE Energy portfolio also includes non-utility energy businesses focused on power and industrial projects, natural gas pipelines, gathering and storage, and energy marketing and trading. Steward, chief human resources officer, is responsible for the execution of enterprise-wide talent management, organizational effectiveness, total compensation, labor relations, and workplace health and safety strategies that shape and support corporate business strategies.   Prior to joining DTE Energy, Steward served as corporate vice president of human resources at Invacare Corp., based in Elyria, Ohio. In this role, Steward was responsible for the corporation`s domestic and international human resources programs, policies, and employee relations. Steward`s professional experience also includes various leadership positions in human resources and labor and employee relations at Cleveland-based LTV Steel Co. and Mellon Bank Corp. in Pittsburgh. Steward also served as deputy attorney general, bureau of consumer protection, for the Pennsylvania Department of Justice.   Steward earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Antioch College, and a law degree from The University of Toledo College of Law.   Steward is on the executive committee and board of directors for the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and serves as a member of the Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation and the DTE Energy Foundation. He is also a member of the HR Policy Association (HRPA) Board of Directors. The HRPA is the premier public policy organization in the corporate human resource field for Senior Human Resource Executives. In 2014, Steward was chosen as one of the Men of Excellence by the Michigan Chronicle. He was named a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources in 2012.
