The Cleburne School District has a long and distinguished heritage dating back to the year 1884, with its first graduate, Bertha Clements being handed her diploma in the spring of 1892. From its beginnings as a one ward district which served the children of the Santa Fe Rail Road shops, Cleburne ISD has grown into a nationally recognized school system that focuses on high academic standards built on a foundation of basic education principles. The Lynchburg City School Division began operation on April 5, 1871 and continues to be recognized as a leader of education in Virginia. From the beginning, students have entered our schools with anticipation, enthusiasm, and hope. Lynchburg City Schools offer educational services to more than 8,000 students enrolled in preschool through adult classes in two high schools, three middle schools, and eleven elementary schools. Our elementary schools provide an optimal academic environment and accelerated learning opportunities. In bridging the gap between elementary school and high school, our middle schools provide the vehicle through which students move from the child-centered, team-teaching, and unit approach of the elementary school to the departmentalized and comprehensive instructional program available in high school. On the high school level, courses within the instructional program range in level of difficulty to meet the students` needs, interests, and academic abilities. Advanced classes, including advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses for college credit, are offered in all academic areas. Co-curricular programs include eleven boys` interscholastic varsity sports, nine girls` interscholastic varsity sports, and cultural arts programs including arts, drama, band, orchestra, and vocal ensembles.
