About the Person

Josh Manion earned his chops in 2002, when he founded Stratigent, a company he built into one of the top web analytics firms in the country, bringing in big-brand clients such as Motorola, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Mattel and General Mills. After nearly seven years running Stratigent, Manion realized most clients were challenged with the implementation process on the back end of marketing analytics solutions. With that in mind, he founded Ensighten in 2009 to provide an open tag management platform to address digital marketers’ needs to collect, own and act on customer data. Ensighten achieved a very strong financial quarter with 200 percent bookings growth in Q2 2014 versus Q2 2013. The company has continued to see significant adoption and experienced 130 percent year-over-year growth in its customer base. Large enterprises such as Travelers Insurance, TD Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Panasonic, The New York Times, Harry and David, and TJX, Microsoft, Capital One, United Airlines, T-Mobile and Walmart use Ensighten to take ownership of their data via the company’s platform. As marketing technology continues to gain momentum and worldwide adoption, Manion most recently worked with VCs to bring in a $40 million round of Series B funding for Ensighten in January 2014, followed by the acquisition of two leading players — TagMan in March and Anametrix in October — to further expand Ensighten`s capabilities beyond tag management and enable digital marketers to optimize their customer experiences across all digital touchpoints. Last spring, Ensighten expanded operations to Australia, with offices in San Jose, New York, London, Cardiff and Sydney, representing customers operating in more than 150 countries. Ensighten hosts AGILITY, an annual user conference in San Francisco. The conference is for marketing executives looking to learn and network. This year, Manion donated a portion of each paid registration to the charity Forever Young, a nonprofit founded by former San Francisco 49er and NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young, which focuses on the development, strength and education of children facing significant physical, emotional and financial challenges. Manion started to play chess at a young age, and by 14, he won the Wisconsin State Junior Championship. A year later, he became one of only two 15-year-olds to ever win the state open title. He postponed college to pursue chess professionally and, after traveling across the globe to challenge top opponents, he won an International Master title at age 19. Chess taught him how to think strategically, in addition to instilling in him a high level of commitment, dedication and focus that has undoubtedly led to the success of his professional career.
