About the Person
Joanne Peterson is the Executive Officer of Human Resources at Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Prior to that, Peterson served as Director of Human Resources at County of Marin from July 2010 – May 2015. Peterson formerly worked as director of management services for Seattle Public Utilities, a 1,400-employee organization in charge of drinking water, wastewater and solid waste systems in the region. She also served as human resources chief for the organization, developing a highly regarded leadership training and succession program that nurtured nearly 300 emerging leaders, preparing them for a changing workforce. She grew up in Superior, Wisconsin, the granddaughter of a Swedish immigrant, and attended Lake Superior College, earning an associate degree in occupational therapy. She served as director of rehabilitation industries with Catholic Charities. In 1989, she moved to Seattle to become a Kitsap County planner and administrator for services aiding the disabled. She served as manager of county affordable housing programs before she was recruited in 1997 to handle personnel duties at the utilities organization. She holds a master`s in public administration from the University of Washington`s Evans School of Public Affairs.
