About the Person

Jill Bodkin is proud of her life`s work – building partnerships, with finance as the underpinning, focusing since 1990 on technology companies. Her continuing career spans business, media and public policy in North America and Asia.   Jill is Chairman, Westport Innovations, Director at Yaletown VCC, Valemount Glacier Destinations, Maxwell School at Syracuse University, Vancouver Opera, and Governor of the Vancouver Board of Trade. Her company, Golden Heron Enterprises, takes an interest in growing companies.   After over forty years of “downtown day jobs”, she now also takes pleasure in saying yes to opportunities like scholarly research on transportation energy for the future, and teaching French as a volunteer in her neighborhood school. She loves to visit her daughter in Banff, her own home town. She also enjoys her seaside garden, opera, skiing, and retracing maritime historical routes.   She is a member of the International Women`s Forum, and enjoyed the past year working with Vancouver chapter colleagues to host 850 world leaders at the 2013 world conference in Vancouver.   After trade posts in the Canadian federal government, in 1981 she became British Columbia`s first woman Deputy Minister, then founding Chair of the Securities Commission. From 1987 to 1996, she was a Corporate Finance Partner in the international firm of Ernst & Young. Since 1996, Golden Heron Enterprises has been her personal holding company, and she is an experienced corporate director. From 2007 to 2011, she was also Director for Canadian Development for the Seattle PBS television channel.   She is a past Director of Laurentian Bank of Canada, KCTS 9 Television and President of Pacific Coast Public Television.   She has been honored with the Governor-General`s Canada 125 medal, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Association of Women in Finance, and Woman of Influence in Business and YWCA Woman of Distinction awards.
