At the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation (MMRF), we have been actively investigating the causes of and potential treatments for diseases since 1952. We support and oversee the medical research conducted at Hennepin County Medical Center, an acute care research and teaching hospital located in downtown Minneapolis. In an academic environment that emphasizes patient care, research, and teaching, MMRF helps offer patients better care now and hope for improved healthcare in the future. MMRF is the third largest medical research non-profit in Minnesota and ranks in the top seven percent nationally of all institutions receiving research grants from the National Institutes of Health. While public monies support a majority of our research, our work would not be possible without the support of corporate and individual donors. MMRF has undergone a rigorous process to earn accreditation from the leading, independent organizations that accredit institutions that conduct medical research trials on human subjects—the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), and animal subjects—the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC). Earning accreditation from these organizations is indicative of our commitment to maintaining the highest level of ethical standards and practices in our medical research programs.
Anderson Center for Autism is a not for profit organization dedicated to providing the highest quality programs possible for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Equally important is our commitment to maintain an ongoing fully integrated support network for their families and guardians. As an organization, we will always strive to provide an enriched and positive climate filled with educational, cultural and recreational activities designed to foster continuous growth, independence and social interaction. We are dedicated to being a results oriented forerunner of agencies by offering the most current state of the art program opportunities.
A relatively young organization, The V Foundation has a strong presence in the scientific community. The Foundation is guided by an elite, all-volunteer Scientific Advisory Committee who recommends the research projects that are funded. This Board is comprised of top physicians and research scientists from prominent universities and cancer centers throughout the country. The mission of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) is to foster public health through scientific discovery, translational research and the dissemination of research results through specially-configured, high-impact public-private partnerships consistent with the priorities of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The FNIH is not only involved in large, ambitious initiatives with potentially high impact on the lives of millions of the world`s citizens, but it also supports smaller focused programs in clinical training and ancillary support programs. The FNIH helps to underwrite biomedical initiatives that might not be attractive for private funding alone, or for one reason or another are not appropriate for wholly public funding. The FNIH may take on projects that are particularly risky in terms of the likelihood of success or where companies may be willing to forgo profits because of early stage nature of the program or in the case of some global health initiatives due to the charitable nature of the project. The FNIH`s projects tend to be longer-term, operating on a time scale that can be unattractive for private investors. At the same time the foundation is capable of responding quickly and nimbly to funding needs that are immediate and pressing. With the goals of NIH as its guide, the FNIH serves both the public and private sectors, helping them achieve significant breakthroughs in human health in areas of interest that overlap with those of NIH.
The Lutheran Home was established in 1906 out of love and concern to provide for retired and indigent pastors and teachers who could live out their lives in relative comfort and dignity. First known as the “Altenheim,” the same spirit remains at the heart of the Lutheran Home a century later. While we serve people of all backgrounds, it`s clear that faith and compassion remain the driving forces in care. Harwood Place, founded by a joint venture between the Lutheran Home and Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, opened its doors in December of 1989. Now solely under the ownership of the Lutheran Home, Harwood Place fulfills the need for a retirement living community as a part of our continuum of care. It provides a beautiful, safe, and dignified campus for independent seniors who wish to reduce the responsibilities of home ownership and have available the socialization and support of health services such as assisted living. One hundred years later, we`re at the forefront of senior care, offering a full range of services, including independent living, short-term rehabilitation, assisted living, memory care assisted living, skilled nursing, adult day services, and host hospice care on-site. Additionally, we offer community programs and a Children`s Center with intergenerational programming, benefiting young and old alike.
