About the Company

The Boston campus of the University of Massachusetts brings the resources of a major university to people from all walks of life, offering undergraduate and graduate programs in approximately 90 fields of study, as well as advanced certificate programs through the College of Advancing and Professional Studies. About the Person

Georgianna Meléndez is the Interim Chief Diversity Officer at UMass Boston and the Executive Director of Commonwealth Compact, a workforce diversity initiative in Mass.  Previous leadership roles:  Assistant Commissioner at the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance, Executive Director at Casa Myrna Vazquez, New England’s largest domestic violence services agency, Executive Director at RESPOND in Somerville, a domestic violence agency serving Metro-Boston, board member for Citizens for Adequate Housing in the North Shore; board chair for Harbor COV in Chelsea; and has served on the fundraising committee for North Shore Christian School in Lynn, MA. In 2007, Meléndez was appointed to Governor Patrick’s anti-crime council. She has a Master’s of Science in Public Affairs from the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at UMass Boston and a BA in English from Bentley University. She is currently working on her doctorate in Business Administration with a track in Organizational and Social Change at UMass Boston’s College of Management. Melendez is a senior fellow for the Emerging Leaders Program at the University of Massachusetts Boston’s Center for Collaborative Leadership and has been featured in a leadership anthology, “Voices of the Future” written by ELP alumni. She resides in the North Shore of MA with her husband and two children. She scribbles weekly with creative writing group called Scribblers Ink.
