Our story began over 140 years ago, when Thomas Bramwell Welch decided to serve grape juice instead of wine at his church. Welch was the first to pasteurize bottled fruit juice using Concord grapes, paving the way for a future industry. After its debut at the Chicago World`s Fair in 1893, Welch`s Grape Juice went on to become the national family favorite it is today. A single glass of Welch`s can stir up memories from the past or help create new ones. Today the company operates two different manufacturing plants – a total of about 300,000 square feet between dry and liquid production. 2020 marked a new era at ILLES Foods, with Cristin Illes Kahale, the founder`s great-granddaughter and the fourth generation of the family, taking helm of the business.

That`s why we started Memphis Meats. Our goal is simple: to change the way meat gets to your plate. We`re developing a way to produce real meat from animal cells, without the need to feed, breed and slaughter actual animals. We expect our products to be better for the environment (requiring up to 90% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, land and water than conventionally-produced meat), the animals and public health. And most importantly, they`re delicious. With our home-base in the San Francisco Bay Area, we`re combining the innovative spirit of Silicon Valley and the rich food traditions of the American south to provide a better meat and world.
