San Carlos, CA-based Auris Surgical Robotics appointed Frederic Moll as Chief Executive Officer
Auris Surgical Robotics, Inc. develops robotics technology for medical applications. The company designs novel dual-arm microsurgical system for ophthalmic surgery. The company was incorporated in 2007 and is based in San Carlos, California.
Frederic Moll, MD is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hansen Medical, a 2003 fund portfolio company. Dr. Moll founded Hansen in 2002, bringing with him more than twenty years of medical device and high technology experience. In 1995, Dr. Moll founded Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ: ISRG), the world leader in surgical robotics, and served as the company s first Chief Executive Officer. Prior to Intuitive Surgical, Dr. Moll co-founded Origin Medsystems, Inc., which later became an operating company within Guidant Corporation following the acquisition by Eli Lilly in 1992. Dr. Moll served as medical director of Guidants surgical device division from 1992-1995. Before co-founding Origin Medsystems, Dr. Moll invented the safety trocar, which fostered in modern general laparoscopic surgery and he founded Endotherapeutics, which was acquired by U.S. Surgical in 1992. Dr. Moll holds a BA degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, a MS degree in management from Stanford University and a MD from the University of Washington. He is a distinguished speaker and lecturer, and is the author of numerous scientific articles. He currently serves on the boards of several Silicon Valley healthcare companies.
