Since 1887, the Rescue Mission has put love into action through shelter, food, clothing, and hope. Headquartered in Syracuse, NY, we are a 100% local and independent nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger and homelessness. We provide programming in Syracuse, Auburn, and Binghamton, NY. In Syracuse, the Rescue Mission is the only organization to serve three meals a day, 365 days a year to anyone in the community in need of a hot meal. We also operate a 183-bed emergency shelter for men and women. Permanent housing includes Crossroads, a 59-bed NYS licensed congregate care home, and 39 units of permanent supportive housing. We operate 28 units of permanent, supportive housing in Merriman Circle. Our staff is trained in trauma-informed care, and throughout the year, we provide support and enrichment activities for our children and families, including field trips, holiday parties, and summer camp. The Binghamton Rescue Mission provides a residence for men who have experienced homelessness or are referred by local agencies. Whitney Place houses a 21-bed dormitory on the first floor, along with 11 single-occupancy rooms with a shared kitchen on the upper level. Additionally, we provide supportive, permanent, affordable housing in a nearby single family home. Looking ahead, the Binghamton Rescue Mission is currently working to renovate a second property on Whitney Avenue to house formerly homeless women.
