The Montclair Public Schools are a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade from the Township of Montclair, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States.

 

About the Person

As Chief Human Resources Officer, Dr. Felice A. Harrison is responsible for all human resources-related responsibilities for the district’s nearly 1200-person staff.  This position, formerly referred to as “Personnel Administrator,” was vacant and was being filled by Dr. Harrison on an interim basis.    Dr. Harrison’s career in the Montclair Public Schools spans 18 years in various capacities including Assistant to the Superintendent, Director of School-Community Relations, and Assistant Principal and Principal of Nishuane Elementary School. Earlier in her career, she was involved in early childhood education as a director of several preschool programs as well teacher of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students.  She has served as an adjunct professor at Bloomfield College and is currently an instructor for the State of New Jersey Alternative Route Training Program for teachers in the Essex County Provisional Teacher Training Program.    A life-long resident of Montclair, Dr. Harrison’s knowledge of the district and the community is unparalleled.  She is a graduate of the Montclair Head Start program, Nishuane Elementary School, Mt. Hebron Middle School, and Montclair High School.  Her service to the Montclair community is noteworthy and has included involvement on community boards such as Montclair Township’s Civil Rights Commission, Safe Streets Montclair, and Montclair Coalition Intervention Alliance.   Her district-level activities have included being a liaison to the PTA Council, the Montclair State University-Network for Educational Renewal (MUSNER), and other MSU committees.  She was also appointed by former Governor James McGreevey to serve on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Commission of the State of New Jersey.   She currently serves on the boards of the Police Athletic League (PAL) and the Montclair Public Library Foundation.  She is a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service organization, and her community service to education-related efforts has been recognized with numerous service awards from organizations including the NAACP, the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), and the Montclair YMCA.    Dr. Harrison earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University in Boston; a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Master of Arts in Supervision and Administration from Montclair State University; and a doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from Seton Hall University.
