About the Person

Edward A. Evans, also known as Ed, is the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.Ed is an experienced hospitality and managed services HR executive who combines a passion for hospitality with a keen understanding of organizational culture in the management of service environments ranging from food service operations to chemical distribution. After graduation from Cornell University`s School of Hotel Administration, Ed started his career with Saga Foodservice, initially in line management roles. Ed then transitioned to the HR function, moving rapidly into increasingly responsible HR roles, initially with Saga and then with Marriott Corporation, ending his time with Marriott as a Vice President of Human Resources for Residence Inns.   Ed then moved to ARAMARK Corporation, where he held roles as the top HR executive for the Business Services Business Unit and the Uniform and Career Apparel Group, as well as leading Centers of Expertise in Labor, Staffing, and other shared services that spanned the entire company. Ed then moved his managed services expertise from the food service and uniform services realm to Allied Waste as the CHRO, steering the organization through its merger with Republic Services in 2009. Subsequent to that role, Ed served as CHRO for Univar, a Seattle-based $10.5 billion global distributor of chemicals, again applying his services management expertise to a new industry environment.   Ed recently retired from Univar and rejoined Gravitas, where he had previously served as a board member and where he headed Gravitas` Hospitality and Managed Services Practice Area. Ed additionally serves on the board of DFC Global, a billion dollar global financial services company currently operating in 14 countries.   Throughout Ed`s career development and in all managed services environments in which he has worked, Ed has had a consistent passion for hospitality and has developed a well-honed talent for finding leaders who can lead and effectively manage in environments where the front line workforce is the face of the company. Ed`s ties to Cornell, where he served as the Founding Director for what is now the Leland C. and Mary M. Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship, continue to this day as throughout his career he has maintained active involvement with The School of Hotel Administration. Ed also serves as an active participant in the National Restaurant Association`s Educational Foundation. He has a well-developed network of restaurant, hospitality, and managed services contacts developed over more than three decades of work in hospitality service sector role.   Ed is a 1974 graduate of Cornell University`s School of Hotel Administration, and also holds an MBA from Cornell University granted in 1975.
