About the Company
Castle Biosciences, Inc. specializes in diagnostic tests for cancers. Founded in 2008, the company goal has been to help advance the care for cancers through objective testing. Our team works with outstanding members of the oncology community throughout the discovery, development and utilization of these tests. Currently, Castle Biosciences has tests to help doctors treat glioblastoma, uveal melanoma, low grade gliomas. We anticipate tests for thymoma and esophageal cancer to be on the market in the near future (1Q-1H, 2012) as they are going through final validation.
About the Person
Derek Maetzold is Founder, President, CEO, and Director of Castle Biosciences, Inc. A leader in the biopharmaceutical industry for the past 25 years, he founded Castle Biosciences in 2007 and has successfully overseen the discovery, development and commercialization of five diagnostic and prognostic tests in cancers, with more in the pipeline. Derek founded the Company after a career of successive leadership roles at Encysive Pharmaceuticals, Schering Corporation (now Merck), Integrated Communications, Amylin Pharmaceuticals (now AstraZeneca) and Sandoz (now Novartis). Derek started in field sales, and has served in roles that span the disciplines of marketing, new product development, business development, and commercialization strategy. Previously, he served as Officer and Vice President, Marketing and Sales, at Encysive Pharmaceuticals. He attended George Mason University, where he received a B.S. in Biology, and completed additional coursework at the University of Calgary Health Sciences Center and the MBA program at University of California-Riverside. Derek is a published author, and a co-inventor of a number of technologies at Castle Biosciences and Encysive Pharmaceuticals.
