About the Person

Commander David C. Bertini, also known as Dave, is a 25 year veteran of Law Enforcement, having started his career as a Police Explorer with the Pacifica Police Department over 28 years ago. He was hired as a Reserve Officer in 1986 and Public Safety Dispatcher in 1987 with the Pacifica Police Department. In 1988 he was hired as a full time police officer with Pacifica. During his career in Pacifica, he rose through the ranks of officer, detective, corporal, sergeant and in 2008 was promoted to Captain.   He has worked a myriad of special assignments including: gang officer, traffic officer, Explorer Post adviser, Reserve Coordinator and investigations. Commander Bertini has been the lead investigator of several high-profile, complicated investigations including the re-trial of Michael Hunter who murdered his parents in 1981, the investigation of the bombing which killed one person in 1999, and most recently the pit-bull dog mauling case, along with several other serious crimes.   As a police Captain with the Pacifica Police Department for 3.5 years, Commander Bertini was assigned to both the Patrol Services Division and the Administrative Services Division. During that time, he was responsible for several large scale operations along with being tasked with the outsourcing of police dispatching to a neighboring police agency.   Commander Bertini holds an Associates of Science degree in Administration of Justice from the College of San Mateo, a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Management from St. Mary`s College and a Master of Arts degree in Military History from Norwich University in Vermont. He is also a POST certified instructor and a graduate of the POST Master Instructor Development Program, a one-year intensive program designed to create a cadre of highly trained law-enforcement instructors throughout the State of California.   Commander Bertini has numerous awards for work, both as a police officer and also as an instructor, including the 2007 California POST Excellence in Training Governor`s Award.   Commander Bertini brings a very wide variety of experience in law enforcement to the Menlo Park Police Department and is now in charge of the Patrol division which includes uniformed patrol officers, traffic, parking, and the Reserve and Explorer programs.
