About the Person

Craig W. Hurty is the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at United Bank, a leading New England bank with more than 50 branches in two states and approaching $5 billion in assets.   He spent the previous 14 years with Fortune 100 health insurer and innovator Aetna, where he was a versatile Human Resources executive. There he held several senior leadership positions which ranged from supporting the Company President as HR Head for Business Operations to defining a newly-created function as VP of HR Shared Services.   At Aetna he was instrumental in building the HR service center environment, creating a workforce analytics capability, developing the HR technology roadmap and promoting a continuous improvement culture. He also led the enterprise employee survey process for 10 years and played key roles in the integration of multiple acquisitions, both small and large.   Before joining Aetna, Craig advanced his HR skills in a variety of management, generalist and executive recruiting roles at PacifiCare Health Systems. Earlier in his career he was in management with the executive search and compensation consulting practice of KPMG Peat Marwick and sales with Northwestern Mutual Life.   Craig graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in Economics and played on the 1982 Ivy League Champion football team. Later, he attended HR executive programs at Cornell and Stanford.   He was twice a speaker at the HR Technology Conference and Exposition on Aetna’s HR outsourcing model and technology strategy, a panelist at the HR Executive Forum on Building an HR Analytics Culture and co-authored the research article “Solid Investments in Engagement Yield Shareholder Return: The Aetna Story.”   A native Californian, he currently resides in Connecticut with his family and especially enjoys kayaking.
