The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is the lead agency in preventing disease, injury and disability; promoting health and well-being; and preparing for and responding to disasters from a health perspective. In 2011, the General Assembly restored DPH to its own state agency after more than 30 years of consolidation with other departments. At the state level, DPH functions through numerous divisions, sections, programs and offices. Locally, DPH funds and collaborates with Georgia`s 159 county health departments and 18 public health districts. Through the changes, the mission has remained constant – to protect the lives of all Georgians. Today, DPH’s main functions include: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Maternal and Child Health, Infectious Disease and Immunization, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Emergency Medical Services, Pharmacy, Nursing, Volunteer Health Care, the Office of Health Equity, Vital Records, and the State Public Health Laboratory.
The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is the primary agency of state government in Tennessee responsible for public health. Its workforce provides a variety of direct and indirect services to residents and visitors in all 95 counties of the state on a 24/7/365 basis.
The mission of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is to manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. Since our inception in 1895 as the Fish & Oyster Commission, with Texas Game Wardens providing "Law Enforcement off the Pavement," and with the addition of the Game Department in 1907, we became the Texas Game & Fish Commission. When we merged with the State Parks Board in 1963, we became Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. The mission of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is to protect the health and wellness of the people in Illinois through the prevention, health promotion regulation, and the control of disease and injury. In partnership with other state agencies, IDPH has over 200 programs which affect the lives and wellbeing of every resident and visitor in Illinois. IDPH promotes healthy living through education, science-based practice and by encouraging disease prevention and control. First organized in 1877, IDPH is one of the state`s oldest agencies with an annual budget of approximately $500 million, with headquarters in Springfield and Chicago and with seven regional offices, three laboratories and approximately 1,100 employees. Each office operates and supports many ongoing programs and is prepared to respond to emergency situations as they arise. Through a diversity of programs and services, IDPH touches virtually every age, aspect and stage of an individual`s life and makes Illinois a safer and healthier place to live. Through the Regional Health Offices, IDPH is able to in effect decentralize regulatory functions and mobilize technical assets to improve the health of Illinoisans.
