In 2010, Verdant Power received the Company Pioneer Award at the EnergyOcean International Conference, and in 2006 the company was presented with the National Hydropower Association’s President's Award, the association's highest honor. Illustrating Verdant Power’s groundbreaking efforts in the regulatory world, on January 23, 2012, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a pilot commercial license for Verdant Power's RITE Project – the first-ever commercial license for tidal power in the United States. Under the license, Verdant Power is authorized to develop the 1 MW project in the East Channel of New York City's East River. Verdant Power has been featured on national television outlets, news programs and documentaries including the NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News, CNN, The Discovery Channel, The National Geographic Channel, and Warner Independent Pictures' “The 11th Hour.” Verdant Power also has been written about in various mainstream and industry publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, USA Today, Newsweek and Popular Mechanics.
