In ending the traditional rivalry between our founding hospitals, CharterCARE’s formation also signals a milestone in the development of stronger, community-based hospital care in Rhode Island. We have replaced competition with active collaboration, and our goal is to reduce costs, strengthen our core clinical services, introduce new clinical initiatives and measurably increase access to health care for the community. CharterCARE will pursue the development of several centers of clinical excellence, including ways in which the existing clinical strengths of our two member hospitals…strengths in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, cancer care, urology, geriatric medicine and behavioral health…can be matched and strengthened.
