About the Person
Charlie Whitaker serves as Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Compliance and Chief Compliance Officer, Altria Group, Inc. In this role, Charlie is responsible for directing the Human Resources and Compliance services for Altria Group and its family of companies, including Talent Acquisition & Leadership Development, Compensation & Benefits, Labor Relations, Compliance & Integrity, Investigations, Security and Facilities. As Chief Compliance Officer, Charlie oversees Altria’s compliance program, working closely with the compliance officers for each of the Altria Group companies. After working for the law firm of Hunton & Williams in Richmond, Va., Charlie began his career for what is now the Altria family of companies in April 2002 in the Law Department as Senior Counsel for Labor and Employment. He later served as Assistant General Counsel for Labor and Employment and Compliance until August 2007, when he became Vice President, Compliance and Brand Integrity, for Philip Morris USA. Charlie graduated from the University of Virginia in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He attended law school at the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review, receiving his juris doctor degree in 1993. He serves on the board of trustees of the Valentine Richmond History Center and the board of directors of the Virginia Repertory Theatre and Virginians for High Speed Rail.
