About the Company

Humacyte, Inc. (Nasdaq: HUMA) is developing a disruptive biotechnology platform to deliver universally implantable bioengineered human tissues and organs designed to improve the lives of patients and transform the practice of medicine. The Company develops and manufactures acellular tissues to treat a wide range of diseases, injuries and chronic conditions. Humacyte`s initial opportunity, a portfolio of human acellular vessels (HAVs), is currently in late-stage clinical trials targeting multiple vascular applications, including vascular trauma repair, arteriovenous access for hemodialysis, and peripheral arterial disease. Preclinical development is also underway in coronary artery bypass grafts, pediatric heart surgery, treatment of type 1 diabetes, and multiple novel cell and tissue applications. Humacyte`s 6mm HAVs for AV access for performing hemodialysis was the first product candidate to receive the FDA`s Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) expedited review designation, and the HAV technology received priority designation for the treatment of vascular trauma by the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

 

About the Person

Ms. Carrie Smith Cox has been the Chief Executive Officer of Humacyte, Inc. since September 20, 2010. Ms. Cox served as an Executive Vice President and President of Global Pharmaceutical Business at Schering-Plough Corporation from May 15, 2003 to November 3, 2009. She is a 30-year veteran of the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, Ms. Cox was Schering-Plough`s executive sponsor for the Merck/Schering-Plough Cholesterol Joint Venture (the "Joint Venture"). She served as President of Global Pharmaceuticals and Executive Vice President at Merck & Co. Inc. Ms. Cox joined Schering-Plough in May 2003. She was responsible for leading the transformation of the Global Pharmaceutical Business into a profitable, high-performing organization. She served as an Executive Vice President and President - Global Prescription Business at Pharmacia Corp., from February 2001 to 2003. She has more than 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She served as an Executive Vice President and Head of Global Business Management at Pharmacia & Upjohn LLC from 1997 to March 2000. She joined U.K.-based Pharmacia and Upjohn (Pharmacia`s predecessor company) in 1997 as a Senior Vice President. Prior to 1997, she served as Vice President, Women's Health Care of Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, a division of Wyeth until August 1997. She joined Pharmacia's predecessor company, Pharmacia & Upjohn, in 1997 as a Member of Top Management and was a strong contributor to Pharmacia & Upjohn`s dramatic turnaround. She serves as the Chairman of the Board of Humacyte, Inc. She served as the Chairman of Prism Pharmaceuticals, Inc., since January 11, 2011. She held a variety of positions in market research, sales and product management during a 10-year career with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals. She has been an Independent Director of Texas Instruments Inc. since September 16, 2004 and serves as its Lead Director. She has been a Director at Cardinal Health, Inc. since December 2009 and an Independent Director of Celgene Corporation since December 16, 2009. She serves as a Director of Humacyte, Inc. She served as a Director of Lyris, Inc. since September 16, 2004. Ms. Cox is a Member of the Harvard School of Public Health`s Health Policy and Management Executive Council and is a Member of the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. She has been named six times to Fortune magazine`s list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. Ms. Cox is a registered Pharmacist and earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in 1981 from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
