About the Person
Carolyn Thomas is currently the Vice President for Talent Attraction & Retention for the American Cancer Society. Carolyn has over 20 years of management and executive level HR experience in the Retail, Healthcare, Insurance, and Non-profit industries. She has spent most of her career as an advisor to CEOs and their Executive Teams and specializes in providing targeted human resources tools, systems and resources aimed at achieving strategic business objectives. Carolyn has a B.S. in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco. She also has an SPHR certification and is a Certified Facilitator for the Northern California Human Resources Association preparing HR Professionals to sit for their PHR and SPHR examinations. Carolyn is a Certified Executive Coach and holds a CPCC from the Coaches Training Institute. Carolyn is a past member of the Board of Directors for the California Symphony Orchestra where she served as Chair of both the Governance and Personnel Committees and was a member of the Executive Committee. Carolyn considers herself a life-long learner and is pursuing a variety of interests. Her most recent pursuit is downhill skiing. Carolyn currently resides in Alameda, CA with her husband William Thomas. They have three children, sons William, Jr. and Raymond, and daughter Alycia, daughter-in-law Sheree and Grandsons Cameron and Adrian Thomas.
