Ferris State University is recognized for its career-oriented educational programs that are designed to meet the technology and work force demands of business and industry, the healthcare professions, and society in general through applied research and practical education. Founded in 1884 on the concept of providing students with marketable skills, Ferris was established by Woodbridge N. Ferris (1853-1928), a distinguished Michigan educator and politician who served two terms as the state`s governor and was elected a United States Senator. Ferris was a private institute until 1950, when it joined the state higher education system. The college obtained university status in 1987.
With the inception of the Business Information Management (BIM) major in 2008, a group of students banded together in 2010 to establish Management Information Student Society, commonly known as MAISS (/meɪs/). The group of BIM students hoped to create a tight-knit community of BIM students to persevere through the difficulties of the newly-established curriculum. Since then, MAISS has grown to comprise of all students who share a passion for business and technology.
College of Eastern Idaho (CEI, formerly EITC) is Idaho`s newest comprehensive community college. CEI now offers academic associate of arts and science degrees with transferable general education credits. Another new opportunity is Early College Programs for high school students. CEI continues to offer career technical programs, basic skills instruction, workforce training and continuing education, and online learning. CEI maintains its fully accredited status by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The College was created in 1969 to serve citizens in a nine-county service area. Now CEI`s mission enlarges to provide affordable, open-access, and quality education for all of eastern Idaho.
