Commonfund was founded in 1971 as an independent nonprofit asset management firm with a grant from the Ford Foundation. Commonfund today manages customized investment programs for endowments, foundations and public pension funds. Among the pioneers in applying the endowment model of investing to institutional investors, we provide extensive investment flexibility using independent investment sub-advisers for discretionary outsourcing engagements, single strategies and multi-asset solutions. Investment programs incorporate active and passive strategies in equities and fixed income, hedge funds, commodities and private capital. Our founding partners Craig Forbes and Art Washburn have worked as a team since 1995. In May 2009, along with their long-time associate LeAnn Mitchell, they formed Alpha Omega Wealth Management — an independent registered investment advisory firm located in Richmond, Virginia.
