Banning, CA-based Banning Unified School District has Appointed Bryan Astrachan as Chief Human Resources Officer
Banning Unified School District, one of the oldest districts in Riverside County, serves a three hundred square mile area. It encompasses Cabazon, White Water, Poppet Flats, and the Morongo Indian Reservation, as well as the city of Banning. The San Gorgonio School District was formed in 1877 and later became the Banning Unified School District. There were 14 children enrolled when the first school opened in a one-room shack. The school moved several times and burned to the ground once before 1907 when a new stucco building was built on Williams Street and a separate high school was started. The Williams Street building is still in use as the Banning district office and administration center. The district educates approximately 5,000 students enrolled in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Banning Unified School District has four elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school, one comprehensive high school, one continuation high school and one independent study school. The district is one of the largest employers in the city of Banning with approximately 570 employees.
Bryan Astrachan is the Chief Human Resources Officer at Banning Unified School District. Mr. Astrachan has been in the same school district for seven years, stepping in wherever he is needed. As Chief District Administrator of Human Resources, Mr. Astrachan works hard to hire the best staff for all the schools, but what he does for students goes beyond that. During the 2012-13 school year, he developed the ""Our Kids First"" concept while he was serving as the acting Superintendent. Through this program, he works closely with police to further efforts of school security and reduce school absences. He personally visits all of the school sites to ensure that kids are safe and has actively reduced gang problems in the middle and high schools through his ""Get To Know Kids"" efforts. He always treats the students with care and respect in dealing with rough situations and gets to know them personally. Whether he is giving food coupons to a few who are too proud to ask, or helping a student with a troubled background get back to school, Mr. Astrachan goes above and beyond his job description. Many in the community that he has touched would agree, ""this guy is unbelievable!"
